These Terms and Conditions apply to all people who enter or use Boulder House. By signing the Waiver, you confirm that you understand and accept these terms on your own behalf and, where relevant, on behalf of any person under 18 you are responsible for. To help younger climbers understand the rules, a kid friendly version is provided at the end for you to read together.

“Boulder House” is the trading name of Boulder House Limited, a New Zealand owned and operated company.

1. Age and Consent Requirements

  • You must be 18 or older to sign the Waiver.
  • If you are under 18, a parent or legal guardian must sign for you.
  • All under 18s must follow the supervision rules described in this document.

2. Acknowledgement of Risks

Bouldering and fitness activities involve real risks. By signing, you acknowledge you understand these risks, which include, but are not limited to:

  • Falling to the ground or onto other users
  • Being fallen on by another person
  • Injuries caused by over exertion or by normal sports movement
  • Cuts, scrapes or abrasions from holds, walls, or flooring
  • Holds breaking or spinning
  • Injuries caused by incorrect use of fitness equipment
  • Injuries caused by other users not following the rules
  • Serious injury, including head, neck, or spinal injury, paralysis, or death

Boulder House takes all reasonably practicable steps to provide a safe environment, but risks cannot be removed entirely.

3. General Rules

By entering Boulder House, you agree to follow these rules:

  • Check in at reception every time you enter the facility
  • Report injuries, unsafe behaviour, or hazards to staff immediately
  • Boulder House is not responsible for lost or stolen items
  • Treat staff and other users with respect
  • Anyone acting unsafely or inappropriately may be asked to leave without refund
  • Look after the equipment and space for the enjoyment of all
  • Do not run inside the facility
  • No topless climbing
  • No dogs inside the building, except as allowed by law (for example, registered service dogs)
  • Access to some areas may be restricted for route-setting, events, training, or maintenance. Refunds will not be given for these closures.

4. Food, Drugs, Alcohol and Substances

  • You must not climb or supervise if you are under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any substance that affects judgment or coordination
  • No alcohol consumption inside the facility
  • No smoking or vaping inside the building
  • Food and drink must not be taken onto the mats

If you are found to be under the influence while climbing or supervising, Boulder House may stop your participation immediately and refuse future access without refund.

5. Bouldering Rules

  • All new visitors must complete a safety induction with a staff member
  • Mats help reduce impact but do not guarantee safety. Down climb wherever possible
  • Any fall may cause injury. Act with caution at all times
  • Report loose or broken holds to staff
  • Keep the fall zone clear. Never climb or walk under or over another climber
  • Keep personal items off the mats. Storage cubbies are provided
  • No bare feet on the walls. Clean, closed toe shoes must be worn. Rental shoes are available but not guaranteed

6. Youth Supervision Requirements

The gym has three areas: Climbing Walls, Fitness and Training Area, and Boulder Kids Area.
Supervision ratios shown in the table below apply and must always be followed:

  • Under 5 years old: constant, direct adult supervision within arm’s reach
  • Ages 5 to 12: must be supervised with a clear line of sight by a responsible adult
  • Ages 13 to 17: may climb independently, but must follow all rules and have a signed waiver from a parent or guardian                    
  • *The Fitness and Training Area may only be used by 13 to 17 year olds with staff approval
  • All under 18s must have their Waiver signed by a parent or guardian

7. Fitness and Training Equipment

  • Follow all safety signage and instructions
  • Under 18s may only use fitness equipment when supervised by an approved coach or staff member
  • Only use equipment you are physically able to use safely
  • Closed toe shoes are required in the fitness area

8. Privacy and CCTV

Boulder House complies with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

We may collect and use personal information for the following purposes:

  • To provide services you have requested, including coaching
  • For safety, including CCTV monitoring
  • For marketing products and services
  • To protect our systems and to prevent unauthorised access

Images or video may be taken for safety or marketing. We will try to obtain consent where practical and will remove published images on reasonable request. During competitions and events, group photos may be taken.

By providing your email address, you agree to receive marketing emails from Boulder House. You may unsubscribe at any time.

A separate privacy statement applies to the free WiFi.

9. Liability and Indemnity

By signing the Waiver, you confirm the following:

  • You use Boulder House at your own risk
  • You are responsible for any personal injury, property loss, or damage that happens to you, your belongings, or any under 18 person you are signing for
  • You indemnify Boulder House, its directors, staff, and contractors from liability for injury, loss, or damage suffered by you, your next of kin, or any under 18 in your care, except where the law does not allow such exclusion
  • You agree to follow all rules, terms, and conditions of use
  • You will ensure that anyone under 18 you are responsible for also follows these rules
  • You accept the Boulder House Privacy Policy
  • You will disclose any medical or other condition that may increase risk to you or others and will seek medical advice before participating
  • You authorise staff to arrange any medical assistance required in an emergency

These terms do not replace your rights under New Zealand law, including the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 and the Fair Trading Act 1986, to the extent those laws apply.

10. Updates to Terms

Boulder House may update these Terms and Conditions at any time. The most recent version will always be available on our website. Continued use of the facility means you accept any updated terms.

These rules help keep everyone safe and having fun.

1. Look After Yourself

  • Always climb down when you can. Jumping is risky.
  • Watch where you put your hands and feet.
  • Tell a staff member if something feels broken or unsafe.

2. Look After Others

  • Check that no one is under you before you move.
  • Do not climb over the top of someone or walk under them.
  • Keep the soft mats clear so people can land safely.
  • Share the space and take turns on busy climbs.

3. Look After the Gym

  • Keep your shoes clean and wear them on the wall.
  • Put your bags and things in the cubbies, not on the mats.
  • No running or rough play.
  • Food and drinks stay off the mats.

4. Stay Close to Your Grown Up

  • Your adult must be watching you at all times.
  • If you are under 5, your grown up must stay within arm’s reach.
  • Listen to your grown up or staff member if they ask you to stop or move.

5. Be Kind

  • Use kind words.
  • Cheer for your friends.
  • Ask for help if you need it.

Boulder House WiFi Terms of Service

By tapping “Accept and Connect” you agree to the following terms.

1. Access

You may use this free WiFi service while visiting Boulder House. We do not guarantee continuous, secure, or uninterrupted access. Service may be restricted or terminated at any time for operational or safety reasons.

2. Responsible and lawful use

You agree to use this network lawfully and respectfully. You will not engage in harmful, illegal, abusive, infringing, or disruptive activity. This includes attempts to access systems without permission, viewing or distributing unlawful content, or using the network in a manner that affects other users.

3. Privacy and monitoring

We collect limited technical information needed to operate a safe and reliable network. This includes your device MAC address, the IP we assign to you, and your connection dates and times. We do not inspect your browsing content, store browsing history, or profile you. Details are in the WiFi Privacy Notice below.

4. Security and safety

This is a public network. You are responsible for securing your own devices. We cannot guarantee protection against malware, interception, or unauthorised access. Avoid accessing sensitive services unless your device uses secure, encrypted connections.

5. Age requirement

Users under 14 years of age must have the permission of a parent or guardian to use this service.

6. Network isolation

This guest network is fully isolated from Boulder House systems, staff devices, and payment terminals. Attempts to bypass network restrictions are strictly prohibited.

7. Limitation of liability

Boulder House is not responsible for any loss, damage, data breach, or security incident arising from your use of this service. Your use of this network is entirely at your own risk.

8. Changes to terms

These terms may be updated at any time. Continued use of the service means you accept the most recent version.


Boulder House WiFi Privacy Notice

This notice explains what information we collect when you use the free WiFi network at Boulder House, why we collect it, and how we handle it.

1. Information we collect

To provide a safe and reliable WiFi service we collect the following technical information from your device:

  • MAC address
  • IP address assigned to your device
  • Date and time of connection and disconnection

We do not collect personal identifiers such as your name or email. We do not inspect your browsing content or store a history of websites you visit.

2. Purpose of collection

We collect this information for:

  • security and safety
  • detecting and preventing harmful or illegal activity
  • network management and troubleshooting
  • compliance with operational and legal obligations

3. How long we keep information

Connection logs are retained for a short operational period, normally 30 to 45 days, and then automatically deleted unless required for an active investigation or to meet legal requirements.

4. Who we share information with

We may share technical network logs only when legally required under New Zealand law, such as by lawful request from law enforcement. We do not sell or share information with marketers or unrelated third parties.

5. Data security

Logs are stored securely and only authorised staff have access. The guest WiFi is isolated from Boulder House operational systems, cameras, security system and payment terminals.

6. Your choices

If you do not agree with this notice you should not use the WiFi service. You can choose to disconnect at any time. If you want to request access to logs related to your device, contact our staff.
